Trevor Sorbie Salon: Getting Highlights Done!

Hey Beauty Lovers! It's been almost five months since I had my highlights done and so I booked in the appointment earlier today, usually I go every 3-5 months depending on how the colour is holding up. I've been getting them done for years at my local Trevor Sorbie salon in Hampstead by Travis who is an amazing colourist! I tend to have long gaps between getting highlights done, firstly it's not as damaging as bleaching your hair every couple of months and secondly I love the look of dark roots. When the highlights are done well the transition from light to dark doesn't look harsh and it becomes a completely different look adding a bit of an edge. For my length of hair the whole thing including a blow-dry  takes almost four hours.

Trevor Sorbie Big Hair Powder Review!

Hey Beauty Lovers! Another Trevor Sorbie hair product I have been loving is the Big Hair Powder from the Volume range. It's a mighty little bottle with a nozzle that deposits the powder to the targeted area. It can be applied only on dry hair, straight into the roots for a big lift and immediate volume or it can also be lightly dusted over the mid-lengths and worked in for a matte modern texture. It's super lightweight and doesn't build up as much as some of the other volumising hair powders I have tried but a little goes a long way!

Trevor Sorbie Styling Range!

Hey Beauty Lovers! Here are some great and affordable hair styling products that I have been enjoying lately. All three are from the Trevor Sorbie Styling range and have a gorgeous summery scent, so I'd definitely recommend to check these out in the coming months! Another reason why they are great for the summer is their lightweight texture, they are non-heavy and non-sticky. The Dry Shampoo has the most delicious floral scent, and what I love about it beside the über sexy scent is that it doesn't leave a powdery cast on the roots as dry shampoos tend to. It's great for refreshing oily roots and also for some volume and texture through out the length.

Invisible Hold Mousse is another great lightweight hair styling product from this range. It creates volume and leaves your hair looking shiny and pretty, use it on wet hair before blow-drying with a round-brush. And finally Natural Hold Hairspray is the perfect light summer time hair spray!

Trevor Sorbie Salon: Getting Highlights Refreshed!

There is definitely some resemblance to Edward Scissorhands... :))

Catching up on AW13 Vogue Disturbia Trend...

Trevor Sorbie Salon in Hampstead is right opposite Space NK!

Et voilà! Fresher, brighter, yet still natural looking...

Hey Beauties! Yesterday I went to Trevor Sorbie to get my highlights refreshed. I had my hair styled and cut by Tom last Friday, and because Travis was away on holidays I booked a separate appointment for the colouring on Tuesday. Travis is an awesome colourist when it comes to quality natural looking sexy blondes. The man is blond himself, he knows what a blonde wants! I always trust him with choosing the right tones. As I have mentioned previously the reason I had my hair cut is because last time I had my highlights done at another place while I was away  and my hair got fried so badly that it just had to be cut off.

So it is very important to get highlights done at a really good place, highlighting/bleaching will of course be stressful for the hair and should only be done by a professional of high standard, who will make sure to condition the hair so that it looks amazing and still remains healthy! I learned my lesson, and won't ever trust my hair to anyone I don't know that well. Travis had to take care of the previous damage including some odd bleached spots left on the hair at the back of my head, and also just getting the blond to look bright and fresh again. He did a fab job, as always! I love how it catches the light and has this healthy warm sheen to it.

Trevor Sorbie Salon: Reshaping A Thick Full-On Fringe

Tom used this Kerastase leave in conditioner before styling my hair, it's got lots of vitamins for damaged hair and I think it also has a heat protection.

Also got to take off another two inches of my length, going even shorter than previously.
I find this length a lot harder to look after, shorter hair tends to be quite time consuming,
although I had so many people commenting how much they love this hair cut on me!

Hey Beauties! This year I decided to completely change my hair style and because I had a full-on fringe which I want to get reshaped into a lighter something it's not a transition you can do quickly. Besides my hair was so damaged that I decided to just cut it off and start fresh! So I thought it might be helpful for some of you who are stuck with a fringe and not sure what to do with it, so I'm going to blog throughout the year to share the progress. I started growing out my fringe almost three and a half months ago. I was thinking about it since new year and then finally decided to really push through it. After you stop trimming your fringe in about 2-3 weeks you hit the point when you either can't see a thing and need to pin the fringe back [which is the worst look ever] - this is the exact point when you feel like just giving up and going back to trimming the fringe. So just keep going, you'll need to pin the fringe for about two weeks, that's when you can start swishing it to one side.

At this point you would be roughly one month into the growing out process. For me it was another month before it was time to start thinning it out so that the sides of the fringe didn't look quite so bulky and would blend nicely into the rest of the hair. Then you just continue growing out the now thinned out sides of the fringe. Almost six weeks later my fringe was ready for another reshape trim, Tom my hairstylist this time trimmed just a small section in the middle and leaving the rest to continue growing out. At this stage my fringe is just starting to fall nicely, but it's just the beginning. I guess it will be another 3-4 months until basically most of the fringe is grown out and the new light version can be cut in.

New Hair: from very long and tired to fresh and healthy!

 Before...

 After...

The inspo I took to show my hairstylist: Jaime King and Heidi Klum
[shoulder length  + different textures]

Hey beauties! I always get a lot of questions asked about my hair so I decided to do a blogpost on this subject. Firstly I should explain that I had long hair for over a decade and only once during that time I had cut a very short bob [which I really was regretting afterwards]. But for years and years I really enjoyed growing out my hair and just getting the ends trimmed once in a while. I absolutely loved wearing long hair. But this summer I turned the big 30, and I have no idea what happened but I started craving a massive change in everything, including my long hair.

Besides that I learnt never to get my hair done while on vacation. The girl that did my highlights ended up being a total amateur, she completely fried my hair to such an extend that I ended up wearing a bun every single day for a month! The hair was so damaged that it literally was sticking up like straw in all directions looking absolutely horrific, which was so frustrating because although I had fresh highlights done I no longer could enjoy wearing my hair down, I hated even touching it let alone seeing it!

So one afternoon I decided it was time to wave goodbye to my 20s and my long hair and embrace my 30s with a new hair style! I googled a few images and the beautiful Jaime King and Heidi Klum shoulder length hair styles seemed really appealing. I wanted something that would be super quick to style and also it was important to have the flexibility to style the hair either wild and textured or glossy and sexy. So it wasn't something I've been contemplating for a long time, I just went with it. Booked the appointment at my local Trevor Sorbie salon, and bam!

Tom did a fantastic job, he got me straight away. There wasn't a second of regret of having half the length of my hair chopped off. In fact right the opposite, I came out feeling fresh, amazing and ready to take the world by its balls...  Remember when Carrie gets her curls cut off and gets a new job, and her life takes a new turn, a more grown up turn, nonetheless she still remained herself that witty and flirty Carrie but sexier, more successful, more confident. It's interesting how a haircut sometimes can almost transform a woman's life.

You can see how my hair looked before I left to the salon, and then Tom styled it to have a bit of a wave in it and lots of volume. But I tried doing different things since like curling, blowdrying with a round brush, or not doing anything to it at all other than letting it dry naturally and everything seems to work beautifully. I certainly didn't feel like it was a hairstyle I had to adjust to, it felt like me instantly. Now it just feels like I wore this hair for years, in a way it feels more sophisticated and suits my lifestyle much better! I love it, thanks Tom!

My Haircare Routine + Styling Tips & Tricks!

Hey beauties, this is the look I wore today for the A La Carte 40th Anniversary event in Shoreditch, which I will blog about tmr as the exhibit will run from 22-26th of May - and if you are a beauty junkie like myself then I think you should really check it out! As it was my lucky hair-day today and a hair blogpost was requested a few times on Instagram I decided it's perfect time to share what I do to my hair, what products I use and how I style it! First of all I shall point out that my hair is very naughty and mischievous, it certainly does not behave perfectly every day... My hair is fine and has an oily roots and dry ends tendency, it's straight but not stick straight, it has a light wave to it. Naturally it's a [very] dark ash blonde, and I get highlights done about twice or three times a year. I have found an amazing colourist at my local Trevor Sorbie salon, next time I see him I will ask if that's ok to share his info and will do a separate blogpost. Now get yourself a nice big cup of tea or coffee as this will be one long blogpost!

Before I went to Trevor Sorbie, I tried pretty much all the salons in Hampstead. I am very particular with how a salon should be and how I feel about it, and I find that Trevor Sorbie suits me perfectly, the people working there, the hairstylists and stuff are really cool, so I am finally happy to have found a salon that is on the same wavelength. Having said that I am not someone who will be making monthly appointments, no no no. I literally get to a hairsalon few times a year. I like my hair to have a life on its own in-between the salon visits. I like the roots to grow out and get grungy [within reason], I don't like my hair looking the same all the time.

That of course means I trim my own fringe, in fact I had no idea how hard it is to find someone professional who knows how to do it properly, so off I went to Boots and got a pair of professional scissors... Also I do trim the ends, which is a good thing to do if you want to keep your hair looking healthy, even if you just take off half an inch. In fact I was once told it's good to do that once a month at least. I'm not too anal about it, like I said I just let it grow and get wild.

Something I have realised over the years is that my hair definitely looks much better if I wash it in the evening, style it and then sleep on it, which may sounds odd, but it works! If I am too tiered to wash my hair before going to bed, and do it next morning - I know I will have bun-worthy hair for the next few days, it just ends up looking frizzy, then flat, and fringe is all over the place. I am also very against washing my hair daily, I actually think it damages the hair, and makes it only get oilier at the roots the more you fondle with it. I wash my hair about three times a week, and style it once and forget about it until it needs a wash, I don't do anything to it in-between washes.

Another trick I have learned works on my hair brilliantly is to not brushing it between washes. So it only gets brushed after I wash it when it's still damp, I love the Tangle Teezer, it's a-mazing for long hair I have no idea how I lived without it before!! And then when I blow dry my hair I brush it out with the big round Trevor Sorbie brush. And that is it, literally! The idea of brushing dry hair makes me cringe, it brakes the hair, makes it frizzy, and on top of that makes the scalp very greasy, so no, my hair started looking a lot healthier and thicker when I stopped brushing [about ten years ago, yes!].

Now onto hairproducts, I make sure to have a few shampoos and conditioners at hand, and rotate them all the time. My hair reacts better if I use say a volumising shampoo and conditioner one day, then next time switch to a colour correcting, and then a softening. I have stopped using the cheap shampoos looong time ago, recently I decided to try the good old Pantene Pro-V and absolutely hated it, so now I strictly wash my make-up brushes with it and bath my cat, they haven't complained.....

Here are the haircare products I am really enjoying currently [for the past few months]:
John Frieda Luxurious Volume Shampoo & Conditioner - great all time products. John Frieda Sheer Blonde Colour Renew Tone-Correcting Shampoo - I used this one every couple of weeks, it's one of those purple shampoos and a must-have if you have blonde highlights! Together with it I use John Frieda Sheer Blonde Highlight Activating Moisturising Conditioner - them together are great if I need a lift, makes blonde hair look shiny and fresh again, almost as if you had new highlights done!

Redken All Soft Shampoo & Conditioner - been trying these out, and really loving them, full review coming soon! I actually washed my hair with these two product last night, really makes my hair super soft, yet stays in shape. And finally Bumble and bumble Thickening Shampoo & Conditioner - this range is great for when my hair is feeling and looking really limp and flat. In terms of hair masks, at the moment I'm loving the Redken All Soft Heavy Cream and Percy & Reed Superglossing Mask - I do them few times a month.

Now then, styling products! I also rotate and mix them up depending on how my hair is feeling. But lately I've been enjoying John Frieda Luxurious Volume Fine To Full Blow-Out Spray, Lee Stafford Volumising Mousse and Sea Salt Spray, Redken All Soft Supple Touch, Percy & Reed Bodifying Cream and Volumising No Oil Oil. And finally not really a styling product but something I would really recommend to anyone with long hair is the Phyto Secret de Nuit, lovely hydrating regenerating night treatment for dry ends.

And finally just in case you wonder what I actually used last night to style my hair with:
After washing my hair and brushing it through with the Tangle Teezer I always twist it up in one of those towel-turbans, forgot to mention, doing this gets the moisture out of your hair, so by the time [say in 20-30 mins] I am ready to blow-dry, my hair won't need too much heat. Then I applied about five pumps of the Redken All Soft Supple Touch softening cream-spray for dry/brittle hair into my palm and then applied it onto mid-lenghts and ends. Then Lee Stafford Volumizing Mousse mainly into the roots and mid-lenghts. Followed by Lee Stafford Sea Salt Spray, this is great for that beach babe look and a bit of texture. And finally never forget a heat spray, currently I am using Toni&Guy Prep Heat Protection Mist. And then I start blow-drying my hair until it's 90% dry, then I used the Trevor Sorbie medium big round brush just doing the top two sections at the back and on the sides. Hope this helps!

Tangle Teezer Salon Elite, The Professional Detangling Hairbrush!

Now that's an awesome invention, thank you Shaun P! Been enjoying this baby for almost a month... Got it right before Christmas when I had my hair done... I found an amazing colourist at my local Trevor Sorbie Hairsalon in Hampstead, and he used the Tangle Teezer when brushing my wet hair, I loved it immediately! Seriously it drove me crazy when in all the previous hairsalons they would drag a regular hairbrush through my tangled hair with that awful sound, braking it and leaving me with that terrible frizz... Tangle Teezer is absolutely brilliant! I wanted to get it for a while but in my Boots they didn't have the Salon Elite edition... The Tangle Teezer comes in different colours and sizes... Salon Elite is the regular size but has more fun colours, like a bright orange and this beautiful ocean blue...

First time I spotted the Tangle Teezer Salon Elite was when I was on my way home walking past a Toni & Guy Hairsalon in Hampstead... I went in to check them out, but the behind-the-counter girl was so rude including the random looking hairdresser with crap hair that there was no way I would purchase anything from that place... I was aware that Toni & Guy had no vision or style, and in general stayed somewhat behind in the 90s but that they also had rude employers was a new unpleasant discovery... Definitely not my type of place... These things can put you off so much so that you even stop purchasing their haircare products in general...

When I get a fantastic service and get to talk to super cool people at Trevor Sorbie that's where I'll be spending my money, because you leave feeling and looking amazing! So yeh, after my new colourist used it on me I knew I had to get it... I also love the design of the Tangle Teezer, it's sleek and stylish... You can use it on dry or wet hair, I never brush my hair when it's dry, but on wet hair it is a-mazing!! I also got my friend one, I think it was the original, in navy with glitter... It's one of those things you want to tell all your friends about or even get them one!
